Ross Island is another beautiful Island near Port Blair. If you stand at the Marine Park, PB, you can see the island.Once an administrative headquarter for the Britishers, before an earthquake rocked the Island in 1941.The British first occupied Ross Island in 1782, and then again in 1857 as a penal settlement and administrative headquarters.The island was chosen for its strategic location and small size. Prisoners built structures on the island, including a church, hospital, bakery, water treatment facility, and club for British officers During World War II, the Japanese occupied the island and converted it into a prisoner-of-war camp. The Japanese built war installations on the island, which are still visible today.On December 30, 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi renamed the island Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Island.Today, Ross Island is a popular tourist destination. Visitors can explore the island’s history and natural beauty, including the ruins of the British structures and buildings

Ross Island is located about 3 km east of downtown Port Blair. One can hope on private ferries or take a public boat ride from Phoenix Bay Jetty to Ross Island.
